Ragsdale Christmas Casserole

A traditional Christmas breakfast casserole, prepared the night before and baked Christmas morning.

Serves 6-8
 
Ingredients:
• 5 slices Pepperidge Farm white bread (buttered and de-crusted)
• 12-16 oz Cracker Barrel cheddar cheese
• Optional 1/2 lb browned ground sausage

Sauce:
• 2 1/2 cups whole milk
• 3 eggs
• 1 teaspoon dry mustard
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 1 teaspoon paprika
• 1 teaspoon Worcestershire

 
To prepare (typically the night before):

• Remove crust from bread
• Butter one side of each of the bread slices (buttering bread not necessary if sausage is added)
• Cut bread into cubes
• Mix sauce ingredients and beat mixture
• Add browned sausage (if desired)
• Layer cheese (cubed)
• Pour sauce mix over bread and let soak overnight

Cooking Instructions (next day):


• Place mixture in Pyrex/casserole dish
• Bake for about an hour at 350F until brown on top and fluffy
