Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)

Nintendo was released in 1986 and based on a custom 8-bit 6502 NMOS (1.79MHz) processor.  It had a dazzling (at the time) 2KB RAM, 2KB Video RAM, displayed 16 on screen colors at a resolution of 256x240 pixels and sold 70 million units worldwide at $199 retail.  Many PC-based software emulators for this system have been written recently due to its multinational popularity.  After testing a number of various emulators, I am currently use the VirtuaNES emulator which was written in Japan (where the game was first launched).  Though not part of the arcade experience that prompted my MAME interest, for many, this console arcade was a common fixture at home with games like Super Mario Brothers and Tetris (shown above).  My collection and refinement of Nintendo support is a work in progress so stay tuned ...  Have a particular game you'd like to re-play from your Nintendo-days?  Drop me a note and I'll see if I can find it.
